This morning my laptop was infected with a "AV Security Suite" Trojan. That's a nasty little program which takes over your browser and starts firing off pop up adds saying your computer is infected and the only cure is to send 49 dollars. Nothing will work...browser, control panel, ctr alt del....nothing...
I tried everything...couldn't get past it....I was dead in the water...
I went downstairs to the hotel computer and did a little research and found a fix....removed the keys from the registry per there instructions...

It worked great! I don't know how it got past my AVG, adaware and a few others but it did.

be careful out there!

As sad as it sounds I have actually had great luck removing this with windows restore points...I know I know...but I have done so about six times this week alone. Use the restore point, and run a good virus program.

Mine got hit last night by a root virus.....that fake AV that makes you buy it to get rid of it......I had to reboot to Safemode with networking. luckily I have different browsers on here, because it hijacked my IE settings.. I used firefox and d/l SuperAntiSpyware free version and it worked first try.

I keep telling my wife and kids, if av scans pop up , to NOT click anything and use taskmanager to kill the IE process.

one happenned to pop up right where I was going to click and I clicked........DOH

Nah, not avg, but a rogue virus protection program. Nasty little bastards that have a great talent at bypassing virus protection to infect your pc, then they beg for your credit card.

malwarebytes should also work for this one.

I had a couple of guys at work get this and a nastier version on their home computers. It masquerades as a "free scan" to check your computer and when you click on it, it bogusly reports that you have a virus (it is the virus and installs more the longer you delay). It is nasty nasty nasty. I had to dive deep to get rid of one of the versions. I found 37 viruses that it installed on one of the computers. had to manually clean the registry and than use malwarebytes to finish it off.
