If you own an ipod you might not want to read this, because I might/will hurt your feelings!

Begin rant:
OK I have been saying this all along to everyone I know "I will never buy/get/own/use and IPOD!"

First my reasons for never wanting an ipod.
1. QUICKTIME
2. ITUNES
3. QUICKTIME
4. Internal battery
5. QUICKTIME
6. The fact that you need to use propriety software to load music on it totally turns me off!
7. QUICKTIME
8. PRICE
9. QUICKTIME

DAY 1
So my sister got an apple IPOD shuffle ver2: http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/ for Christmas and all my reasons for not ever wanting one came true. She wanted to hook it up to my parents computer, which is an old one of mine, so I know what the hardware can do. So I figure she can handle installing this so user friendly ipod no problem, I mean it is so easy right, thats the big thing for apple ease of use? So she gets itunes v7.02, goes through everything at install, just clicking ok on all the preset options, so QUICKTIME, ipodservicehelper, ipodservice all load at windows start, there are 50 new icons throughout the desktop and start menu, so things are going great so far. Then she starts itunes, it checks for updates, she connects ipod to usb 1.1 port, ok I tell her the usb 2.0 ports are on the back, she hooks it up there, windows is happy. Itunes proceeds to setup the ipod, its name and what music to import. She again clicks right through like a champ. Now Itunes check for an update to the ipod, it says it has to update. She clicks ok, itunes spits out an ERROR 1418. Ok she thinks its time to ask me. Now I would imagine I know a few things about general computer stuff, I am by no means a computer or software engineer. Ok I go through the same stuff she just did with the same results. I will have to look at it later. She says she will take it to work and try it where they use all MAC stuff.

DAY 2
She comes home from work and says it does the same thing on the mighty MAC's. Ok I decide it is time to hit up google for the "ipod error 1418" phrase, and low and behold number one on the list brings: http://www.1418hell.com/ Ok so big problems now. I uninstalled, reboot, run crap cleaner, reboot, driver cleaner, reboot, windows update, reboot, format ipod, reboot, reinstall latest itunes 7.02, reboot. I did this for about 2 hours tonight. I went through all the setup, bang it comes up in Itunes ok for about 5 mins, and back to the same crap. And judging from this site: http://www.1418hell.com/ no fix is planed for the mighty ipod.

Pros: you cant have pros when it is a piece of crap from a donkey on the dark side of the moon
Cons: doesn't work (is that good enough?)

/end rant

If you want a real mp3 player get a radio shack model like me http://www.radioshac...rentPage=family

Pros:
1. Replaceable battery
2. Price
3. FM tuner
4. straight usb plugin, no chincy cable
5. Drag and drop (no itunes or propriety software)
6. Can connect to any computer
7. No error 1418
8. NO QUICKTIME

Cons:
1. No stupid laniard, wait that would be a pro also.

If your a parent don't let your stupid kids tell you they need an Ipod, first tell them there stupid and then show them this post. The only reason Ipod is popular is because: "oh my friend has one and he is cool, so I need one, who cares if the thing doesn't work."

Comments are welcome

My iPod works wondefully.

quicktime = terrible

and

itunes + quicktime = bundle

If I wasn't so lazy, I would find a better updater.

I have the program under control now though.

P.S. My iPod is the black 30gb video one. My dad works at Chrysler and took a free class on iPods to get a discount on it. It ended up being ~ $70 so I can live with it. smile.gif

Uh, I hate the do you have an ipod question...and the blank stare I would get with the no, but I do have other mp3 players. Apple has done a great bit of advertising and marketing here. And frankly after looking at the Microsoft's bit of hardware (Zune) not a whole lot better. I have a puny little Sansa that I love, works great, has FM tuner, voice recorder, no video, but hell, cant watch video while sawing lumber anyhow:P

HEHEHE! i remember those. boy times have changed huh?

When I signed up for cable internet last year the cable company sent me a a creative labs 512 MB USB MP3 player for free. I can play a couple hours of NPR (if I bother to download it) I have an FM transmitter for it and I play it in my work truck when I feel like it.

Honestly, I don't listen to enough music to bother with an Ipod or other more expensive player.

I think it's odd how I feel old fashioned preferring CD's. (mainly when doing graphics work i.e. mapping)

Ok, enough with the ipod stuff time to move onto the iphone. Never used the Apple iphone, or the Cisco iphone, but I hope Cisco sues Apple for all its worth for using the iphone name before they reached an agreement. I mean what balls they have for using a trademarked name without any agreement. Which leads me to believe I should trademark "ibone" before Apple jumps into the medical market, with an "ibone' diagnostic device, so i can receive a settlement for using my trademarked "ibone" name.

Also did any of these cellphone makers ever realize that some (many) people can't have a camera on there cell phones if they want to take them into work. If anyone of the major cellphone makers would market a cellphone, without a camera, they would make a killing on businesses and people buying them for work use. Instead they all make there best phones with cameras. Idiot marketing/sales departments.

I found something I like about Apple. There commercials about windows. They have really been putting out alot of good ones since the launch of vista. I laugh every time I see a new one.
