I think I'm in love with Leslie Feist. Here she is in her old band, Broken Social Scene:
Cool video! The wooden eyed pirate from the Pirates movies, "Ragetti", plays the postman in this video. And Natalie Portman is a ghost! Whoa! If only I had the cash to employ movie stars in my music videos. Oh wait, I don't have music videos. So I'm ok then! Everyone knows Paul, and this is from his new album which hardly needs publicizing. And I'm lazy and no one is reading this.
My Morning Jacket LIVE on Austin City Limits Beautiful wonderful song. I don't own any of their music, but I'm going to have to pick up this album. As someone noted in the comments of this video, "there is whole lot of hair in this band!" MMJ hails from Louisville, Kentucky, where Pad See Ew is moving to. Maybe they'll consider taking on a mandolinist. "The Way That He Sings" is on the album, "At Dawn": My Morning Jacket Official Website My Morning Jacket Wikipedia Entry
Watch Paul Anka turn a Nirvana screamer into a swingin' big band tune!
I just bought The Bad Plus' new album, "Prog", yesterday. It's INCREDIBLE. Their cover of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears is what drew me in, and the rest is....WOW. The Bad Plus' latest album is "Prog": ![]() The Bad Plus Wikipedia Entry The Bad Plus, "Prog", on Amazon.com

From the youtube entry description: "A very rare Chicago footage, the 1974's song Call On Me performed live at the Caribou Ranch, from TV special "Meanwhile back at the ranch", aired on August 16, 1974, with the original members and Laudir de Oliveira, former Brazilian percussionist. The Caribou Ranch is the old studio founded by James William Guercio, their former producer, where they recorded five of their first eleven albums, and which control room had been burned in March, 1985, not being ever reactivated. Such a rarity!" "Call on Me" was a hit off Chicago's seventh album, Chicago VII: ![]() Chicago Official Website Chicago on wikipedia
Cool for a couple of reasons, it's by a creative fella named DJ Yoda. Secondly, it samples an awesome vintage Level 42 groove from the song "Living it Up". Flatt & Scruggs singing part of "Pearl", on The Beverly Hillbillies. And for Ben Gunn, here's Foggy Mountain Breakdown, written by Earl Scruggs (the banjo player on the left). Yes, that is Steve Martin playing a mean banjo on the right!
This is the only thing of theirs I could dig up on YOUTUBE, but it's a great sample (it's maddening however....at 00:57 or so they cut away to these three girls...). If I had to pick 5 albums to bring with me to a desert island, the one this song is on would be up there. Suzanne's voice (the lead singer here) is amazing. She's better than Alison Krauss, in my opinion! Will There Be Any Stars? is on the album called "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow" with Alison Krauss: ![]() "Their profile was raised considerably when they met Alison Krauss in the early 90s, who subsequently produced and appeared on a number of their albums." - from the Wikipedia entry on The Cox Family The Cox Family on Amazon.com The Cox Family on Wikipedia |
